Isn’t this city on everyone’s bucket list to visit in the spring? To take pictures with the beautiful fields of tulips or ride a boat cruise around its many canals? I finally visited it in April of 2022 when the tulips were in full blooms and spent some memorable days exploring the city.


Day 1: Amsterdam City Center

  • Morning:
    • Start the day with a hearty brunch at Omelegg.
    • Begin your Amsterdam adventure by strolling down Damrak Ave, lined with shops, cafes, and historic buildings, offering a lively introduction to the city.
    • Visit the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, a magnificent 17th-century building that showcases the rich history and grandeur of Dutch royalty.
    • Explore Dam Square and the charming De 9 Straatjes (9 Streets) for boutique shops and cafes. Stop by van Wonderen Stroopwafels for some sweet treats.
    • Experience the unique Bloemenmarkt, the world’s only floating flower market, where you can marvel at a vibrant array of flowers and plants.
  • Afternoon:
    • Explore the Museum District. Dive into Dutch art and culture at the Rijksmuseum, home to masterpieces like Rembrandt’s “Night Watch,” or explore the life and works of Vincent van Gogh at the Van Gogh Museum.
  • Evening:
    • Visit the Anne Frank House to reflect on a poignant chapter of history. Get a ticket beforehand.
    • Wander through the charming Jordaan Neighborhood, with its narrow streets and cozy cafes, and enjoy dinner there.


Day 2: Day Trip to Zaanse Schans

  • Morning:
    • Embark on a day trip to Zaanse Schans and discover the quintessential Dutch village, complete with working windmills, traditional houses, and a clog-making workshop.
  • Afternoon:
    • Continue the journey to the charming town of Edam, famous for its cheese markets and picturesque canals.
    • Experience the quaint fishing village of Volendam, known for its colorful wooden houses and vibrant harbor.
    • End your day trip in Marken, a former island with well-preserved wooden houses and a rich maritime history.
  • Evening:
    • Explore the lively Red Light District for its nightlife.

Day 3: Keukenhof Gardens

  • Morning:
    • Tour the stunningly beautiful Keukenhof Gardens, where millions of tulips and other flowers bloom in a spectacular display of color.
  • Afternoon:
    • Stop by for some famous Dutch fries at Mannekenpis with a variety of dipping sauces.
    • Take a leisurely boat tour through the city’s canals, discovering hidden gems and charming neighborhoods.
  • Evening:
    • Enjoy a farewell dinner at a rooftop restaurant with a view of the city. Reflect on your memorable weekend in Amsterdam.
